Information regarding local councils is restricted to the councils' involvement in patrolling local surfing beaches.
The Swimming Season
Generally speaking, the swimming season commences on the Saturday of the October long weekend (the first Monday in October, Labour Day, is a Public Holiday in New South Wales). The swimming season concludes on the Sunday following Anzac Day (April 25).
Beach Patrols
During the swimming season, on weekends and public holidays, Surf Life Saving Clubs patrol six beaches in the Coffs Harbour area. These Surf Club patrols are supplemented, on weekdays during some or all of the Christmas school holiday period, by patrols mounted by local council lifeguards. Local councils also patrol some other beaches on a seven-day basis. The patrol hours may vary from beach to beach. Check with the relevant council or Surf Club to find out when a particular beach is patrolled.
