Tide Prediction Tables
(Tide Charts)

There are a number of organisations that publish tide charts. These include:

Thorsby & Thorsby's Tide Charts

Our own online Tide Prediction Tables give a week's predictions (eight days, commencing yesterday) including times for sunrise and sunset, moon rise and moon set, and phases of the moon. Times are given in Eastern Standard Time or Daylight Saving Time, as applicable, and the predictions are localized to Coffs Harbour (i.e., you don't have to make any time adjustments). Times for moon rise and moon set are obtained from the National Mapping Division of Geoscience Australia (formerly the Australian Surveying & Land Information Group). All other data in the charts are calculated by David Flater's XTide Program. The XTide Program uses the same tide prediction algorithm as that used by the US National Ocean Service and incorporates base data (harmonic constants) provided by the Royal Australian Navy (see Government Departments and Agencies) which constants are derived from those originally calculated by the British Admiralty.

Dean Pentcheff's WWW Tide and Current Predictor

This World-wide tide prediction service is also driven by the XTide Program. Tides for Coffs Harbour (two days, plus sunrise and sunset) also provides for further information to be calculated (e.g., a tide calendar for up to a year, or a tide graph). Times are stated to be "EST" (Australian Eastern Standard Time) but are Daylight Saving Time when applicable, and are localized to Coffs Harbour.

The National Tidal Facility

The tide prediction service provided for Fort Denison in Sydney Harbour by the National Tidal Facility is the basis for many published tide predictions for New South Wales. The Facility also publishes a free, public-access, Tidal Predictions Web page which gives the current week's predictions for Fort Denison, as well as a few other places (not including Coffs Harbour). Note: Times are Eastern Standard Time and you must adjust for Daylight Saving Time. These charts have no information about sunrise and sunset, moon rise and moon set, or phases of the moon. Copies of the annual New South Wales Tide Tables are available free of charge from NSW Waterways offices ( see Government Departments and Agencies).

The Australian Hydrographic Service

The Australian Hydrographic Service (see Government Departments and Agencies) which was formerly a division of the Royal Australian Navy, publishes a complete prediction service (sun, moon and tides) in both printed and electronic form, but its publications are not free. The Hydrographic Service does not have a public-access online prediction service.

Manly Hydraulics Laboratory

The New South Wales Department of Public Works and Services' Manly Hydraulics Laboratory publishes a printed booklet entitled "NSW Tide Charts" based on data collected from its station located at Middle Head in Sydney Harbour. Tide times for Coffs Harbour are seven minutes earlier. The Laboratory provides an online three-day graph, The Sydney Predicted Tide Pilot, which gives details (in Eastern Standard Time only) for today and the next two days as well as the rising and setting times for the sun and moon and the phases of the moon.

Sydney Ports Corporation

The Sydney Ports Corporation publishes an "up to the minute" online graphical comparison of predictions vs. actual measurements for Fort Denison and Botany Bay.
